every so often in life, sport etc, you come up against something brainier or more superior to yourself – and you have to stand back and either watch and listen or just take in the ambience and learn.
Such was the case on Saturday when West Auckland came to play football at Liversedge (Sedge).
West Auckland were winners of the very first Football (Soccer) World Cup in 1909 and to see their technical and general play was out of this world.
The last time this happened on the same scale at Sedge was against North Shields (now re-formed) and then Bamber Bridge which was stacked full of Manchester City reserves.
They were also both FA Cup games and we, Sedge, lost 7-1 and 7-0 respectively.
Saturday’s game could have been on the same scale but luckily they took their foot off the pedal in the second half!
