I WAS concerned to read in the Spenborough Guardian that the Heckmondwike Royal Mail Delivery Office could close.
If this is the case I hope there will be some public consultation. Not only would we be losing another important local facility, it would also mean trailing to Batley to collect undelivered mail and would particularly disadvantage people who rely on public transport.
The Royal Mail remains an important public service and decisions that affect public access to its services should be subject to wide-ranging and meaningful public consultation.
Keeping the mail office in Heckmondwike would, I am sure, be to the benefit of both the public and staff.
