I COMPLETELY agree with the heartfelt concerns about the dangers of crossing Bradford Road in Oakenshaw (Letterbox, June 24).
The volume and speed of traffic, including a high proportion of HGVs, makes crossing near the church to get to school and play group a daily safety risk.
As local councillors, we are taking this very seriously. We have taken senior highways officers there at peak time so that they experience for themselves these daily dangers.
As a result of these efforts and working with residents, the council’s Cabinet have already agreed to put pedestrian refuges there.
We accept that this doesn’t solve the problem. So, following a discussion with your correspondent, we are actively pursuing alternative solutions. All involved accept though that if there was an easy answer action would have been taken long ago.
