I have signed the petition campaigning for a new crossing at Six Lane Ends in Heckmondwike and would urge all readers to do the same (Spenborough Guardian, October 11).
When I worked in Leeds I would wait for my bus on Leeds Old Road and witness cars going through the traffic lights on red.
I once complained to Metro about vehicles parking at the bus stop on Leeds Old Road and was told they would do nothing about it due to the lack of space available for local residents to park. I have complained several times to Kirklees Council about the dangers of this busy road and the vehicles that park at the traffic lights while making their deliveries to the Nisa store. These vehicles create a blind spot for pedestrians to cross the road.
Recently the Six Lane Ends traffic lights were out of use for several hours causing absolute chaos for those travelling to work. Further down Leeds Road near the Liversedge pub, there used to be a school crossing patrol warden who escorted children across the road.
This service hasn’t existed for the past two years and exacerbates the problem. These problems should be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
