My MP Mike Wood is right to draw attention to the growing need of people who are having to use food banks in order to feed themselves and their families (Guardian October 25).
No one, in this day and age, should have to go hungry and I suspect there are many more living on their own who are struggling to feed themselves that we don’t know of, because they are too proud to use a food bank.
While people struggle with their food bills, it is sickening to hear that Tesco wasted nearly 30,000 tonnes of food in the first half of this year.
Food prices have shot up faster than inflation and official figures show that half the waste happened in our supermarkets and warehouses.
Instead of wasting food, supermarkets should be cutting their prices so that everyone can afford to put a meal on their tables.
