I was pleased to read Coun David Sheard’s suggestion that when Whitcliffe Mount sports centre closes to make way for a new school that the site at Spenborough baths be looked at for development as a centre for sports facilities in the Spen area.
It was not too long ago that the Liberal Democrats were saying that Spenborough baths was under threat despite Labour’s commitment to maintain the site.
To hear that the site could be developed further into a sports and recreation facility would be excellent for the area as the present site is atthe heart of the community and is already accessed by many local residents.
To further develop this site would demonstrate the clear commitment of the Labour led council to invest in the health and wellbeing of residents.
With the prospect of further significant disproportionate cuts imposed on the council year on year by the coalition government it is good to see that the Labour led council is looking for ways to continue to support our local communities.
