I’d like to thank everyone who supported me and the Labour Party in this year’s local elections in Cleckheaton.
As turnout dropped markedly on last year the Labour vote held up and our share of the vote increased. At the same time the Lib Dems and Conservatives lost hundreds of votes between them compared with last year, and even more in comparison to the local elections in 2008 when Coun Kath Pinnock was last re-elected.
It is a long time since Labour has come second in Cleckheaton and this was a very pleasing result, due in no small part to the focus of our campaign entirely on the pressing and genuine concerns of local people.
In addition I must recognise the efforts of a very small number of local party members and supporters who I would like also to thank for all their hard work in securing such a positive result.
