Taking a stroll along the Greenway between Cleckheaton and Liversedge following a heavy shower on Sunday afternoon, I had to endure a thoroughly unpleasant smell emanating from Yorkshire Water’s sewer pipe.
A number of other people I passed commented on it, and it ruined the walk for me.
It occurred to me that anyone walking or cycling along the Greenway for the first time may well be put off future visits.
I know that people living close to the Greenway have experienced the smell frequently and not just following heavy rain.
Yorkshire Water assured the people of Spen Valley, when concerns were expressed, that all would be fine, but this is clearly not the case.
The pipe has compromised not only the long term prospect for rail use, but also the enjoyment by local people of a popular amenity.
The pipe should have followed the A638 road down the valley.
