A 74-year-old woman was punched in the stomach and back before her mobile phone was stolen in a sickening attack as she shopped in Morrisons in Heckmondwike.
The incident happened on Saturday morning between 10am and noon.

The pensioner was carrying a black canvas bag and pushing a trolley when she was approached by two Asian teenagers around aisle 13 of the Union Street store.

One suspect punched t
he victim in the stomach and the other punched her in the back before they unzipped the canvas bag and stole a mobile phone from it. They then fled.

The 74-year old was left very shaken by the incident but otherwise unharmed.

Both suspects are believed to be in their late teens. One had long curly hair, tied in a pony tail, was around 5ft 5in, slim and wearing a red vest top and blue jeans. She may have had a nose ring and head jewellery which went across her head in a half moon shape.

The second was about 5ft 3in, slim, with black long hair tied in a pony tail. She was wearing a blue and white striped T-shirt, blue jeans and a thick gold rope chain.

It is possible that the two suspects may have followed the victim around the store before attacking her.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them via the helpdesk on 01924 431059, the main switchboard on 0845 6060606 or direct to the CID office on 01924 431105.
