Batley slipped to a third straight defeat in the All Rounder Bradford Premier League, despite producing an improved batting performance against Pudsey Congs.

Batley posted their season highest score of 208 but couldn’t prevent a 42-run defeat.

Muhammad Tahir (42no) and Sufyan Patel (40) were Batley’s top scorers but they struggled against the spin of Congs’ 15-year-old bowler Sam Wisniewski, who claimed 5-68, with support coming from Josh Wheatley (3-21).

Wheatley had earlier made 95 while sharing an opening stand of 182 with James Ford, who made his first century for Congs.

Ford struck two sixes and 13 fours on his way to 105 as he helped Congs to their biggest total of the season closing on 250-5.

Muhammad Hafeez took 4-40 for last season’s Championship A title winners.

Promoted Townville picked up their second win, defeating struggling Bradford and Bingley by 72 runs.

Jack Hughes was in good form with the bat as he top scored with 89 in an innings that included three sixes and nine fours as Townville made 237-7 to claim maximum batting points.

West Indian paceman Shkym Haynes did the early damage with 5-27, before spinner Connor Harvey (4-13) got in on the act as Bingley were bowled out for just 72 and they are at the foot of the Premier Division table having lost their opening three games.
