GOMERSAL Seconds celebrated a cup and league double in some style last weekend with a double success.
The team who won the Priestley Shield last month earned a four wicket success over Idle on Saturday but on Sunday they let rip against Saltaire in a match that had yielded 700 runs.
Openers Tony Blain and Richard Gould shared an amazing opening stand of 350 before the latter was out for 180 having faced 157 deliveries he struck 22 fours and five sixes. Blain was unbeaten on 171 having faced 135 balls. He struck 22 fours and four sixes as Gomersal set a target of 384-1.
To their credit Saltaire put up a good fight reaching 308-8 in their 50 overs. Chris Rhodes was the pick of the bowlers with 3-20 from nine overs. The previous day Rhodes had starred against Idle with a haul of 4-6 in six overs, three of which were maidens.
