Celtic face tough play-off

DEWSBURY Celtic face a tough task in tomorrow’s Rugby League Conference National play-offs as they visit Featherstone Lions (2.30pm).

Celtic rounded off the league campaign with a 58-10 defeat at Huddersfield Underbank Rangers who finished top of the table. The Lions, who finished third, also gained a fine win, at home to second-placed Kippax Knights, so Celtic who finished sixth, nine points behind tomorrow’s hosts, know they must be at their best.

There is an intriguing Pennine League clash on Saturday as Birstall Victoria host Dewsbury Moor in the Championship (2.30pm).

Both sides are expected to be challenging for honours and made impressive starts to the campaign last week.

Thornhill Trojans marked their start to life in Division Two with a 36-18 home victory over Wyke but they have a blank date this weekend while Wyke host an in-form Selby Warriors side.

In Division One Birkenshaw were edged out 28-22 at home by Morley Borough but will hope for better fortune at home to Newsome Panthers.

Hanging Heaton started in Division Six with a 36-4 win over Moldgreen and bid to maintain the run at home to Sherburn Bears.

Shaw Cross Sharks will look to bounce back from a 32-0 home defeat by York Acorn as they host Hull Dockers tomorrow (2.30pm).

The Sharks have lost two of their three games in the National Conference interim season and are third in Group G, two points behind leaders Bradford Dudley Hill.
