Cleckheaton will bid to kick-start the Christmas festivities with the perfect tonic tomorrow when their two senior sides travel to face Wirral.

The Moorenders first team will be aiming for an eigth win in their last nine National League Three North outings and bid to cement their place in the top six as 2014 draws to a close.

The Kestrels will aim to continue their impressive form when they tackle Wirral’s second string, with the 36-strong playing party departing Moorend at 10.45am.

Club captain Richard Piper will start at no8 after coming off the bench to grab two tries in last week’s hard-fought 19-13 victory over improving Westoe.

Rob Afoa Peterson also scored on his return from a shoulder injury and is joined in a strong looking Cleckheaton pack by Alex Dawson, Ollie Akroyd and Danny Vento.

Cleckheaton have further forward power to call from the bench if required in the form of Carl Mason, promising Kestrels starlet Jack Seddon and James Crowther.
