East Bierley embark on the ECB National Cup trail this Sunday with a tasty first round tie against Central Yorkshire side Townville (1pm).

It should be a cracking contest against a side who are expected to challenge for CYL honours this season, especially after they bowled rivals Methley out for just 71 in their opening match last Saturday.

Almost 270 clubs from across the country have entered this season’s ECB Cup, which has been draw into 16 regional groups of 16.

Bierley and Townville are in Group Two and the winners will be away to Goole Town or Treeton, with the possibility of a clash against holders York to come down the line.

Bierley travel to Bradford & Bingley in JCT600 Bradford League Division One tomorrow, following last week’s agonising one run defeat to Pudsey Congs when Neil Gill required a six off the last ball but could only manage four.

Game of the day is at Oakenshaw, where champions Woodlands entertain last season’s runners-up Lightcliffe.

Lightcliffe thought they had won the title on a dramatic final day of last season until Woodlands snatched the crown.

Cleckheaton host Pudsey St Lawrence in another cracking game between two sides expected to be near the top come September.

Division Two clubs play their first double league weekend, with Gomersal and Spen Victoria away on both days.

Gomersal go to Brighouse tomorrow and are at Bowling Old Lane on Sunday, Spen are at Idle and Farsley, while Hartshead Moor entertain Great Horton and then go to Yeadon.

Cleckheaton are staging an evening with former Carlisle manager Greg Abbott and ex-Bradford City player turned pundit John Hendrie on Thursday May 23 (8pm) and tickets, priced £10, are available from Kevin Mitchell (k_mitchell3@sky.com).
