Experienced Sumner steers Liversedge to victory over leaders Buttershaw

Liversedge produced a terrific display to inflict a first defeat of the season on early Bradford League Championship Two leaders Buttershaw St Pauls.

Asid Ali (4-22) and Steve Lane (3-48) produced impressive bowling displays as Buttershaw were bowled out for 138, despite the efforts of experienced all-rounder Tosh Baker (44) and Ben Platt (31).

Opener Alan Sumner made sure there were no slip ups from Liversedge. He hit 66, including a six and 12 fours, as they earned a second win of the season.

Deffeat for Buttershaw allowed Hartshead Moor to take over at the top thanks to a fourth straight win.

Opening bowler Iain Wardlaw continued his early season form with 5-30 as Hartshead dismissed Hunslet Nelson for 128 as Patrick Hinchliffe top scored with 50.

Opener Craig Field led the successful run chase with an unbeaten 70 as Hartshead moved 13 point clear at the top.

Northowram Fields are level on points with St Paul’s after a comfortable seven-wicket win over Brighouse.

Spen Victoria are up to fifth place after a six-wicket win over Hopton Mills.

John Bowett (49), Ashley Mackereth (47), Chris Stott (36) and Michael Carroll (36) all made useful contributions as Hopton posted 225-9 to claim maximum batting points.

Left-arm spinner Danny Cross (5-27) was pick of the Spen bowlers but the home side’s reply was soon in trouble as they were reduced to 18-3.

A superb unbroken fifth-wicket partnership of 158 between George Deegan and Chris Allen enabled Spen to recover from the blip and record a six-wicket win.

Deegan hit 16 fours and a six on his way to 95 not out, while Allen struck 85 not out from just 66 balls as Spen won with almost 10 overs to spare

Keighley suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down to a one-wicket defeat at Carlton, leaving Hartshead the only unbeaten side in the section.

Idle registered their first win of the season when they chased down Altofts total of 194 to squeeze home by two wickets with 17 balls to spare.
