Cleckheaton go in search of a fifth straight win tomorrow and bid to climb into the top five of National Three North with a trip to Sheffield Tigers.

Coach Ian Armitage rested a number of first team regulars for last week’s Yorkshire Cup tie against Sheffield but several of the promising young replacements produced storming displays.

Niall Jackson, Luke Pearson, Brad Marsden and Jake Jagger are all just 18 years old but came through their promotion to the senior side with flying colours.

Sam Wood, still only 17, has forced his way into the first team in recent weeks and continued his terrific run by scoring in the 29-10 cup win over Sheffield.

Wood’s precise kick through also provided opportunity for Colts teammate Jagger to score.

Another product of Cleckheaton’s successful youth system, Josh White, set up a try for James Wilson in the Yorkshire Cup success, which saw Cleckheaton set up a quarter-final trip to Bradford & Bingley on December 20.

Cleckheaton are in terrific form having also won their last three league games and thoughts now turn to tomorrow’s trip to Sheffield Tigers, when victory could see the Moorenders climb into the top five.

Cleckheaton boasted 25 players hopeful of being included in the 18-man squad to face fifth-placed Sheffield.

Danny Vento misses out with experienced forwards trio Rob Afoa Peterson, Ollie Akroyd and Richard Piper all returning to first team duty but they will be mindful that the youngsters are knocking on the door for further senior appearances.

There is a place on the first team bench for White, while Jagger, Jackson and Marsden are in the Kestels side, who make the short trip to Morley.
