THE SHEARS Inn made a memorable start in the Leeds Red Triangle League Kath Lawson Division as goalkeeper Ryan Woodhead claimed the distinction of scoring the team’s first goal of the season.
But his joy was short-lived as the Shears lost 3-2 to Kirkstall Crusaders Reserves.
New signing Woodhead made his mark at King George V Playing Fields Hightown. The goalkeeper launched the ball from his own penalty area, it bounced once in the area and over the top of his opposite number, before nestling into the bottom corner of the net.
While his team-mates celebrated the goalscorer only gasped in astonishment.
Shears assistant manager Colin Hardy said: “It was amazing, it’s such a rare thing. The lad has a great kick on him.”
