Last minute goal dooms Liversedge to defeat

Liversedge 1

Winterton Rangers 2

LIVERSEDGE were unlucky to fall to a last minute winner last Saturday as Winterton leapfrogged them into ninth place in the Northern Counties East League Premier.

Liversedge enjoyed long periods of possession and created the better of the chances but they were unable to find a finish.

Winterton established the lead after four minutes when Liam Wilkin rifled home after good build up play.

Alex Hallam tested Winterton goalkeeper Jake Ward with a shot which was pushed over the crossbar.

After 20 minutes a good move involving Jerome White, Hallam and Chris Hanney set up White but his shot was blocked.

James Hurtley found Hallam in a good position but his shot went wide.

After the break Liversedge were on top again but unable to score. Lee Ashforth brought on new boy Samuel Mir after 55 minutes for Chris Hanney and mixed it up again with the introduction of Joe Jagger for David Bordman and Jamie Wasley for Hurtley. The substitutions gave Liversedge a new impetus and the Winterton defence was tested by a Larkin cross into area which was met by Hurtley but his shot was just wide.

Just after his introduction Joe Jagger was unlucky not to equalise when he tried to lob the goalkeeper but he stretched to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Liversedge were boosted on 75 minutes when Nathan Cartman scored with a screamer of a shot from 25 yards out.

Wasley and Jagger had great chances to extend the lead but their efforts failed.

Right at the death a hopeful ball was pumped out of the visitors’ half and Wilkin picked it up and cooly rifled home the winner leaving Liversedge no chance to get back into the game.
