Clayton surprise as United begin clearout
Midfielder Adam Clayton is the big surprise, having been put on the transfer list despite playing in 46 games for the Whites in the season just finished, establishing himself as the best midfielder at the club.
Attacking midfielder Ramon Nunez is another up for sale despite only signing a long-term contract with Leeds last autumn.

Hide AdStriker Billy Paynter, defenders Paul Connolly and Andy O’Brien plus goalkeeper Paul Rachubka are the other contracted players who have been placed on the transfer list.
Five players coming to the end of their contracts, meanwhile, have been released – centre-back Alex Bruce, winger Lloyd Sam, strikers Danny Webber and Mikael Forssell and goalkeeper Maik Taylor, who has already signed for Millwall.
Warnock met with all his playing staff individually to inform them of his decisions with those about to leave following Ben Parker and Mika Vayrynen, who had their contracts cancelled last month. Loan men Darren O'Dea and Paul Robinson were also sent back to their clubs.
More players could follow out of the door with decisions waited on new contracts they have been offered.
