Littletown succumbed to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Drighlington in the Heavy Woollen District FA Wheatley Cup final at Ossett Town last Thursday.

A miserable night for the Beck Laners was compounded when leading goal scorer and captain Joe Jagger was stretchered from the field in the second half and taken to hospital with a rib injury.

Jagger is now a major doubt for Littletown’s West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division Cup final against Golcar United at Brighouse Town this Saturday.

Drighlington moved from the Wakefield League to the Yorkshire Amateur League two years ago but defied their underdogs tag by racing into a two goal lead in front of a 200-strong crowd.

Jagger was closing in on a half-century of goals for the season and had a couple of early chances before Shane Snowden’s found himself in space to drill home the opening goal for Drighlington.

Snowden bagged a second soon after as he turned the Littletown defence and drilled a cracking shot into the top corner.

Littletown had defeated Drighlington in the County Cup earlier in the season and they tried to respond but several shots were well off target and Drighlington were worthy of their half-time lead.

Littletown attempted to hit back at the start of the second half but it was Drighlington who stretched their lead when Snowden met an in-swinging corner perfectly to head home their third goal.

Jagger pulled a goal back when he beat a well-organised Drig defence and calmly slotted home.

Drighlington thwarted the Littletown revival and Ryan Rhodes looked to have put the tie beyond doubt when he clipped the ball home after goalkeeper Michael Smith had parried an initial shot only to be flagged offside.

Jagger’s injury virtually ended Littletown hopes of a comeback and Drighlington sealed victory with a fourth goal.

Drig worked their way upfield and Josh Frankland hit a stinging volley into the net from the edge of the six yard area.
