Liversedge undone by Birstall lad Broadbent

Liversedge slipped to a 2-1 derby defeat away to Thackley in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday.

It was a local lad who played a part in Sedge’s downfall as Birstall’s Dan Broadbent scored a superb equalising goal with a 30-yard screamer and he was also named Thackley’s man-of-the-match.

The Dennyfield pitch survived two inspections but the game was eventually given the go ahead.

Peteu Crouz gave Liversedge an 18th minute lead but Thackley’s leading goal scorer Broadbent struck with his 14th of the campaign from long range to level matters after half an hour and it remained 1-1 at half-time.

The sides continued to be well matched after the break and it took a George Eustance goal after 64 minutes to clinch Thackley’s win as they completed a league double over Sedge having won 3-1 at Clayborn in November.

Defeat saw Liversedge slip to ninth place in the Premier Division table but they incredibly face seven of their remaining eight matches at Clayborn.
