Woodman record back-to-back victories to pull clear of Premier danger zone

Woodman Batley Carr boosted their hopes of finishing outside the bottom two in the Heavy Woollen Sunday League Premier Division with a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Navigation last week.

Woodman were second-bottom just three weeks ago but a draw and two wins has lifted them to sixth place and they are now six points clear of Navigation.

Dom Karimi and new signing Sam Hetherington were the Woodman scorers in their latest success.

Woodkirk Valley climbed to third place after Christy Woods hit four goals in a 7-0 win over bottom side Heckmondwike Sports Club.

Ben Holdsworth bagged a double for Woodkirk with Matthew Moon also finding the net.

Woodkirk are six points adrift of leaders St John Fisher, whose top of the table clash against Birstall Cricket Club was postponed.

Woodkirk trail Birstall by five points with three games in hand, while they have also played one fewer than Fisher.

Woodkirk host Fisher in a delayed Heavy Woollen District FA Brook Butler Cup quarter-final this Sunday.

Wellington Westgate climbed to third place in the Championship with a convincing 8-2 win over bottom side St John Fisher Reserves last week.

Overthorpe Sports Club Reserves increased their lead at the top of Division Two to eight points after winning 2-1 at Dewsbury United thanks to strikes from Dominic Simpson and Tom Hirst. Michael Thompson replied for Dewsbury.

Second placed Wire Works were surprisingly held to a 3-3 draw at Snowdon despite Nolan St Hilaire’s hat-trick. Irfan Ali (two) and Bilaal Mir netted for Snowdon.

Elsewhere Linthwaite Reserves drew 1-1 with Clifton Rangers A.

Runaway Championship leaders Linthwaite booked their place in the Heavy Woollen Challenge Cup final with a 3-1 win over Premier high fliers Mirfield Town.

They will meet the winners of the other semi-final between treble chasing St John Fisher and AFC Chickenley, which is due to be played on March 26 at Overthorpe Sports Club.
