Batley Boys produced an excellent second half display to run out 44-18 winners away to Wibsey in Yorkshire Men’s League Division One last Saturday.
Wibsey began well and ran in two early converted tries but Batley rose to the challenge and made good yards up field with forwards Gavin Davies and Sean Whittaker gaining ground before sending Nathan Lumb over for a try near the posts, which Adam Bingham converted.
Wibsey upped the pressure and crossed for another converted try but again Batley came back strongly with Daniel Scales and Nathan Willans making ground.
With the Boys close to the line, quick thinking from Bingham saw him move the ball out for Josh Richter to score in the corner.
Bingham was unable to convert and Batley trailed 18-10 at half-time.
Batley hit back at the start of the second half when Josh Whitehead scored the first of his four tries but Bingham was unable to convert.
Batley piled on the pressure and broke down the wing for Whitehead to score again and Bingham’s goal edged the visitors ahead.
Aaron James added his name to the scorers and Bingham goaled before Willans then broke from his own half and raced over for a try, which Bingham again improved.
Whitehead completed his hat-trick and then bagged a fourth try, with Bingham adding both conversions, to seal an impressive win which saw the Boys nil Wibsey in the second half.
Batley Boys welcome Skirlaugh Bulls to Halifax Road this Saturday.
