George Stott was man-of-the-match as Thornhill Trojans A defeated Siddal in the Yorkshire Mens League last Saturday.

A late flourish from Thornhill Trojans A saw them return to winning ways with a 28-18 success over Siddal A in Yorkshire Men’s League Division Four.

With no scheduled first team game, the Trojans included a smattering of senior players in the team along with Scott Lee, who had joined after being released by Keighley Cougars.

Loose forward George Stott was man of the match but there were good showings from Adam Hoyle and Luke Palmer.

Thornhill built up an early lead with tries from Shane Davies and Adam Johnson.

The first try came after good handling from Scott Lee and Anthony Broadhead took them close before Adam Hoyle sent Shane Davies crashing over for an unconverted try.

Adam Johnson then raced away for a long range try, which Richard Llewellyn converted.

As the first half wore on the Trojans allowed Siddal back into the game as Tyler Dupree raced down the wing from inside his own half and then cut infield to score. Henry Turner converted.

Thornhill then lost the ball on their own line and Matty Prest pounced to score and send the sides into half-time level at 10-10.

Johnson scored his second try of the game early in the second half but Siddal replied with two quick tries as Elliot Thompson and Tom Ettenfield forced their way over for unconverted tries to put them four points ahead.

The lift the Trojans’ side needed came from the lively duo of James Craven and Scott Lee.

Craven brought Thornhill back into the game when he picked up the ball from acting half-back, sold a wonderful dummy and nipped over from close range.

Lee then scored a similar try, but this time the break was in front of the posts. Richard Llewellyn converted.

In the run up to full time Craven used his pace to break away and score an unconverted try.

In the find seconds of the game tempers boiled over with Vinnie Johnson at the thick of things.

Once order was finally restored, the referee blew for full time to confirm a welcome victory for the Trojans.
