Pickering Town 2
DARRYL Leach celebrated the birth of his third child in style on Tuesday when he rescued a point in Liversedge’s Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash at Pickering Town.
Leach missed Saturday’s FA Vase game with Emley due to the arrival of his son but was back in the line-up on Tuesday and, with Liversedge trailing 2-1, the centre back ventured forward for a corner.
Leach’s header was fumbled by the goalkeeper and he was on hand to bundle home the rebound before wheeling away and producing a baby cradling celebration.
It was a cracking game, with both sides having chances.
Mike McNorton and Alex Rhodes were denied by Sedge goalkeeper James Waggett early on, while at the other end Nathan Cartman and Alex Hallam had shots saved.
Tom Adams hit a post for Pickering, before Liversedge took a 31st minute lead when Alex Hallam crossed for James Hurtley to head home.
A Hurtley cross-shot was tipped over, while Dave Bordman and Hurtley linked to send Cartman through but his shot trickled past a post.
Pickering came out firing in the second half and scored two quick goals trough Steve Baxter and sub Joel Rann.
Leach capped a memorable few days with the equaliser in the 70th minute and both sides had chances to win it late on.
The best came in injury time when Jerry White fed Bordman, who laid it off to Joe Jagger but his fierce shot was tipped onto the crossbar.
Liversedge: Waggett, Cooper (Larkin 68), Horsman, Hopkins, Leach, Shuttleworth, Hurtley, Newton (white 60), Cartman, Bordman, Hallam (Jagger 80). Subs (not used): Saville, Knight .
AFC Emley 3
LIVERSEDGE bowed out of the FA Vase last Saturday when they suffered an extra time defeat to AFC Emley.
Liversedge twice battled back from a goal down only to concede the winner just before half-time in extra time.
Emley went ahead after 17 minutes when a free-kick was headed home by Sean Hazelden.
Liversedge created chances and deservedly equalised in the 43rd minute when Hurtley put Alex Hallam in on goal.
His goalbound effort was blocked on the line but rebounded to Andy Shuttleworth, who volleyed home to make it 1-1 at half-time.
Further chances were created after the break but the stalemate remained, so the tie went to extra-time. Mark Stuart put Emley back in front two minutes after the re-start with a shot from the ede of the area but Sedge restored parity when Cartman volleyed home.
Just before the interval, Emley won a corner and Heagney’s cross was palmed into his goal from Waggett and the visitors held on for victory to book their place in the next round.
Liversedge Waggett, Saville (Cooper 98), Hallam, White, Larkin, Shuttleworth (Jagger 85), Hurtley (Wasley 65), Hopkins, Bordman, Cartman, Newton. Sub (not used): Knight (gk).
