Batley Boys soar to top of the table after racking up half-century against Skirlaugh

Batley Boys continued their impressive start in Yorkshire Men's League Division One with a 58-22 victory over Skirlaugh Bulls last Saturday.

oth teams came out strong, creating early chances but it was Batley who struck first when they broke up field and the ball was moved for Josh O’Sullivan to crash through the defence and over the line on his first game of the season, with Adam Bingham converting.

Skirlaugh replied with a spell of pressure but Joe O’Hanlon intercepted a pass and raced virtually the full length of the field for a cracking try.

Skirlaugh again responded well and pulled an unconverted try back but Batley responded well, making good yards up the slope, before Jayjay Price broke through to score a try, which Bingham converted.

Skirlaugh hit back with two quick converted tries before Batley got the upper hand again with Ryan Crossley scooting over for a try and Bingham converted.

Batley kept up the pressure sending Crossley over for his second try, converted by Bingham.

Batley showed no signs of letting up the pressure and added further tries in quick succession from Luke Sheridan and Aaron James, which Bingham improved.

Skirlaugh scored a converted try but impressive work from the Boys forwards took them close to the line and Mark Kitchingman scored, with Bingham tagging on another goal.

Batley continued to show impressive form.

Excellent ball skills led to tries for Josh Whitehead and Bingham, who added both goals to cap an impressive display as the Boys took over as the new first division leaders.

Batley Boys face a trip to West Hull Lions A on Saturday.

The Boys were also due to face Shaw Cross A in the John Kane Cup last night with the winners meeting Thornhill A in the semi-final.
