Crucial day for leading sides in Bradford League Division One

WOODLANDS will look to extend their lead at the top of Bradford League Division One tomorrow on a day when the top four sides go head to head.

Reigning champions Woodlands have yet to taste defeat in the league this season and are 28 points clear of Pudsey St Lawrence ahead of their trip to fourth placed Bradford & Bingley.

Lawrence were involved in the only top flight game to beat the weather last Saturday and they took full advantage, beating Saltaire by six wickets to move second in the table.

The Saints are just six points ahead of third-placed East Bierley, who they welcome to Tofts Road tomorrow.

Woodlands are still firing on three fronts as they play Central Yorkshire League champions Wrenthorpe on Sunday July 8 in the semi-final of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

They have also been paired away to East Bierley in the semi-final of the Priestley Cup, which is scheduled for July 22.

With the top four sides playing each other tomorrow, there could be the chance for Cleckheaton to make up some ground when they entertain lowly Pudsey Congs, who are desperate for the points to haul themselves out of the bottom two.

Division Two sides face the first in a series of double league weekends and Sunday’s matches have thrown together some interesting clashes.

Hartshead Moor welcome local rivals Gomersal to Highmoor Lane, while Spen Victoria are at home to second placed Baildon.

Moor are at home on both days as they host second-bottom Idle tomorrow, when Spen travel to Bowling Old Lane and Gomersal will be looking to keep pressure on the leading sides when they go to Great Horton.
