Cup quest for Cleckheaton
CLECKHEATON RUFC have two pre-season games lined up this month, with one having added spice.
Next Saturday (August 21) Cleckheaton will host Bradford and Bingley at Moorend (kick-off 3pm) while the following Thursday (August 26) Cleckheaton travel to face Pontefract (6.30pm).
The sides were drawn against each other in the Yorkshire Cup and as the tie has to be played before September 15 Pontefract and Cleckheaton decided to play the game pre-season.
The Moorenders have lost Matthew Burrows who has signed for Yorkshire League Wath where he lives.
Cleckheaton made it to the semi-final stage of the Elite competition before losing to eventual winners, Caldy National League two, at Saturday's Halifax 7's
The competition featured 20 teams split into 4 groups. Cleck made easy work of the group stages, winning all their games by fairly impressive margins.
The team featured several of Cleck's first team and one or two old faces. The squad was Paul Turner, Ryan Piercy, Ed Chappellow, Richard Piper, James Sargeant, Matt Piper, Ian Gordon, Tom Brook, Johnno Marshall, Ross Hayden, James Wilson, Joe Masserella, Gareth Lamb and Ross Carbutt.
