Defeat will not deter Liversedge

LIVERSEDGE aim to get back to winning ways as they travel to face Maltby Main in the Northern Counties East League, Premier Division tomorrow.

The Clayborner’s four match winning run was ended by a hammer blow 4-1 defeat, delivered by promotion challengers Armthorpe, on Tuesday night.

In a season that has been stop-start throughout Liversedge were not in action last Saturday which could have disrupted their rhythm when they came up against Armthorpe. The visitors were just too strong for Liversedge and made their intentions clear scoring a goal in the first two minutes of the game.

It was no surprise for Liverersedge who have already been beaten by the South Yorkshire side on two previous occasions in the league and the cup.

Despite defeat there was plenty for the Liversedge boss Sean Regan to take heart from. His side, changed because of work commitments, tried to live with their visitors who have the second best defensive record in the division.

Jamie Wasley played a key role in the contest and is firmly establishing himself as a prolific striker getting into good positions and getting good service from the players around him.

Liversedge remain in seventh place in the table, a point behind sixth-placed Selby, who have games in hand on Liversedge.

The Clayborners are leading a group of three clubs on 42 points so cannot afford to slip up, allowing Winterton and Pickering to take over their place. Also in the mix is just behind Arnold Town on 41 points.

All the clubs are aiming to secure a top eight spot to qualify for an invitation to play in the Northern Counties East League President’s Cup Competition next season.

Liversedge will be hoping to take all three points against Maltby Main who are in 16th place, and are on a losing run of five matches.

Liversedge player Aaron Oddy joined first division strugglers Eccleshill on Monday.

n There are still tickets remaining for Liversedge’s Sportsman’s Dinner at the Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford on Friday March 26, when wisecracking man of football wis Barry Fry will be the guest speaker.

The dinner will kick off a programme of events for the club’s centenary. Tickets are available from secretary Bryan Oakes or any member of the committee at the club.
