FA Vase will be welcome distraction from league woes

Liversedge will hope to get their season on the right track when they head north to face Darlington Railway Athletic in the FA Vase first qualifying round.

Manager, Stuart Waddington, said: "The Vase will be a bit of a distraction for us but we will be looking to build for the league game at Nostell next Tuesday."

Liversedge earned their first point from a 2-2 draw at home to Arnold on Monday, after losing 2-1 to Dinnington last Saturday.

The harsh reality is Liversedge are bottom of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division but the manager knows his side is far better than than and is positive about the future.

"When you look at the table it does look bad," he said "but anyone who saw the last three matches will know that we had so many chances. We could have won all of them if we had some luck."

Waddington added that he was grateful the squad were gelling and creating chances.

They were without nine players in the last two games, but still managed to stick to their task and showed plenty of character.

Waddington will have a strong squad to take to Northern League Division Two side Darlington Railway Athletic.

James Flowers will come into contention and Brook Newton could be available after an ankle injury but Danny Clapham will is out with a hamstring injury.

Supporters can travel to Darlington on the team coach, leaving at 11.30am, tomorrow.

n The Under-19s had Jack Rogerson and Adam Hill on target in a 2-0 win over Skipton College on Wednesday. They start their season at home to Ossett Town next Thursday.

The Under-16s are in the FA Youth Cup and will meet the winners of Maltby v Pontefract, to be played next week.
