Featherstone Rovers win opening Northern Rail Cup game

FEATHERSTONE Rovers warmed up for the visit of Dewsbury Rams this Sunday by thrashing Oldham 68-0 in their opening game of the Northern Rail Cup on Wednesday night.

Victory saw Rovers move top of Pool A, ahead of Halifax - who beat Dewsbury 36-6 last Sunday - and Batley Bulldogs, who won their opening game 22-16 at Keighley.

In Pool B, Hunslet Hawks recorded a 34-18 victory over Whitehaven in their first competitive match under new coach Barry Eaton.
