Hanging Heaton win title - Spen's 10th win

HANGING Heaton clinched the Bradford League Division Two title with an emphatic nine-wicket success at home to Hartshead Moor

Hartshead had decided to bat and initially it seemed a good idea before four wickets fell for no runs to leave them struggling at 33-5.

Heaton needed two points for the title and they clinched them when Liam Evans was the fourth man out, caught by Rob McFarlane at slip off Nick Bresnan, who took three of the first five wickets and ended with 4-33.

Daniel Squire hit a defiant 32 while 26 not out from Jamie Priestley helped steady matters but Heaton's investment in experience, with Bresnan allied to captain John Carruthers (2-45), McFarlane (2-23) and Mark Lawson (2-15), again paid dividends as the visitors were 121 all out in 36 overs.

McFarlane and Harvey Anderson then shared a stand of 82 before McFarlane (46 in 43 balls with 10 fours) was caught by wicketkeeper Jonny Cox off Squire (1-31).

Anderson though stood firm and made 58 not out, supported by Haroon Rashid (15no) to see Heaton home in the 18th over on 126-1.

Defeat ended Hartshead's slim promotion hopes as they slipped to sixth place, 39 points behind second-placed Lightcliffe who beat Keighley by nine wickets.

Manningham Mills trail Lightcliffe by 13 points in third after beating Windhill by 220 runs while Bowling Old Lane are just a point behind Mills after a 101-run win over Great Horton.

Spen Victoria recorded their 10th league win of the season as they beat hosts Idle by 58 runs. Tosh Baker made 72, including 10 fours and a six, supported by Sean Raven (28) and Paul Eachus (27no) in Spen's 211-7.

Graham Dobson made 30 and Luke Heinemann 29 in reply but Robert Warriner (1-15), Mahboob Hussain (3-33) and Will Smith helped reduced Idle to 96-4.

Smith picked up four more wickets to finish with 5-24 before Baker (1-10) struck to see the hosts 153 all out with 15 balls left.
