Hartshead triumph in thriller with Gomersal

LEADERS Hartshead Moor took a massive step towards the Bradford League Seconds Division Two title last Saturday as they beat Gomersal by just one wicket in a thriller at Oxford Road.

Hartshead seemed well set for victory as they skittled out the hosts for 121 in 44.2 overs. James Tolson made 24 and Liam Grant 26 as Jack Baldwin (5-35 in 13.2 overs), Martin Riley (2-27), Jim Hardcastle (1-31) and Louis Brooke (2-18) struck.

Gomersal soon stormed back and Ryan Kitson (3-240 and Josh Fell (3-25) soon had Hartshead reeling at 10-4 in reply.

Jotham Barnett and Brooke both hit 19 but wickets continued to tumble with Dave Hilton (1-19) and Nasser Hussain (1-13) adding to more success for Fell and Kitson.

Hartshead were in deep trouble at 91-9 before an unbeaten stand of 32 from Andy Waudby (21no) and Baldwin (7no) saw them edged to victory on 123-9 in 46.2 overs.

Third-placed Windhill beat Great Horton by five wickets to close the gap on Gomersal to eight points while Spen Victoria are just four points further back in fourth after their 20-run win over Saltaire.

Mark Loker fired 38 but Spen Victoria were dismissed for 132 with five balls to spare.

Danny Simpson struck twice to leave the visitors 4-2 before Steve Dunne led a revival. Simpson had Yasar Qadim (21) caught by Tom Loker while fellow teenage spinner Oliver Davison removed Dunne (40) as the final six wickets fell for 11 runs.

Saltaire were 112 all out in 43 overs as Simpson ended with 5-22 in 13 overs with five maidens and Davison 5-28 in 14 overs.
