Leeds United field inquiries for transfer-listed players

WHILE Leeds United continue to be linked with bringing several more players in over the next few days movement out of the club also looks likely soon following confirmation that bids have been made about transfer-listed players.

United boss Neil Warnock has revealed that although the six players he made available for transfer at the end of last season are still at the club he had fielded several inquiries about them.

Adam Clayton, Billy Paynter, Ramon Nunez, Paul Connolly, Andy O’Brien and Paul Rachubka were all told they would be allowed to move on if a suitable offer was received.

“There’s been some inquiries for a number of players,” Warnock told the Leeds United official website.

“I’m not surprised really. I think they all could do other clubs a job, but it’s just that we’re trying to change things and there’s always one or casualties.

“It’s no disrespect to them because you want to bring players in. We’ve had a couple of offers.”

Huddersfield are believed to be heading the chase now for midfielder Clayton, who is expected to command a fee of about £500,000, with their manager, Simon Grayson, eager to team up again with a player he signed for Leeds.

A quick sale would free up funds for Leeds to follow up their interest in QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and Portsmouth striker Luke Varney.

Both players have expressed an interest to come to Elland Road, but moves have stalled because of United’s inability to pay a fee while they await news of the proposed takeover of the club.

Leeds are also being linked with two more defenders. Richard Keogh, of Coventry and Luke Chambers, of Nottingham Forest.
