Liversedge fade badly after encouraging start

Hallam 6 Liversedge 0

LIVERSEDGE faded badly in South Yorkshire after a promising start as they suffered their heaviest defeat of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division season.

The visitors made a bright start and created three good early chances but two Chris Wood goals either side of half-time put Hallam on their way to an emphatic victory.

Jamie Wasley had an excellent chance to put Liversedge ahead after just 10 minutes when he latched onto an excellent through ball by Jermaine Springer and went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who denied him with a neat save.

Brook Newton shot over after 15 minutes before Wasley was sent in on goal by Joel Ettiene only to fire wide.

Wood put Hallam ahead after 42 minutes and added his second three minutes after the break before Liversedge fell apart badly.

An Aaron Oddy own goal put Hallam 3-0 up and Daniel Smith made it four after 55 minutes.

Things went from bad to worse for the Clayborners as Ryan Tate struck a fifth after 69 minutes and Lee Naughton completed the rout four minutes from full-time.

Defeat saw Sedge slip to 10th in the table.

Liversedge: Wilkinson, Haigh, Oddy (Cavanagh 72), Shuttleworth, Springer, Ettiene, Walker, L Ryan (Lunn 78), Wasley, Newton, S Ryan (Lawlor 58).
