Liversedge head east hoping for prize scalp

LIVERSEDGE head to the east coast tomorrow siming to shock Northern Counties East League high fliers Bridlington Town (kick-off 3pm).

The Clayborners have not played since a 1-1 draw against Tadcaster on January 28 but they will be relishing the chance to come up against one of the title favourites.

The race for the championship is set to be one of the most enthralling in years with seven sides in with a realistic chance of challenging going into the final third of the campaign.

Bridlington lie second three points behind leaders Retford United but with two games in hand and a significantly better goal difference and they will not want to slip up against Billy Miller’s men.

Town are on a six-match unbeaten run in all competitons, which includes a 2-1 success over fellow title rivals Scarborough Athletic in a game played in front of a bumper crowd of 748.

Scarborough groundshare at Bridlington’s Queensgate and the last time Sedge were there, they gave Athletic an almighty fright.

The Clayborners surged into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Nathan Cartman, Jamie Wasley and Alex Hallam only for Scarborough to reply with three goals in the final 18 minutes to snatch a draw.

Liversedge will again look to raise their game at the same venue and were they to win, it would really shake things up at the top of the table.

Liversedge suffered a 4-2 defeat at home to Bridlington when the sides met at Clayborn on October 1.

By the time Liversedge welcome Lincoln Moorlands to Clayborn next week (February 25) it will be only their second home game since Boxing Day.
