Liversedge in battle for top flight survival

LIVERSEDGE make a last roll of the dice for their Central Yorkshire League Premier Division survival this weekend as they undertake a basement battle with second-bottom Batley at Mount Pleasant tomorrow.

The Roberttown Laners are four points behind Batley and seven behind third-bottom Altofts with five matches to play.

Liversedge are seeking their first win of the season but they have earned three, four point draws. Batley have won three games outright but have not managed any four pointers.

Liversedge were undone by Wakefield Thornes last Saturday while Batley were outplayed by champions-elect Wrenthorpe.

In Division One Scholes have spiralled alarmingly towards the relegation zone, they are third bottom, five above Woodkirk, their nearest rivals.

However, they will be hopeful of moving towards a safer position as they meet bottom club Caribbean at Scott Hall Oval tomorrow.

The Bradford League title chase took a turn for the worse as far as Woodlands is concerned when Pudsey St Lawrence took over from Woodlands as leaders in Division One after they claimed the full 20 points from their match with Gomersal while Woodlands' match at Pudsey Congs was rained off restricting the Oakenshaw side to five points.

Woodlands will need to make the most of tomorrow's match with Farsley as they are not in action the following week.

There was quite a spectacle at Oxford Road as Gomersal's Richard Whitehurst hit the fastest half-century in the Bradford League from just 11 deliveries. Unfortunately the captain's innings was in vain. Gomersal will aim to consolidate their mid-table spot at Baildon tomorrow.

East Bierley, dark horses for the title, will be aiming to get one over Cleckheaton at Moorend tomorrow.

In Division Two Hartshead Moor in fourth have a tough test at home to second-placed Lightcliffe. Spen Victoria travel to Morley.
