Liversedge win treble as Wasley fires brace

Shirebrook Town 0 Liversedge 4

LIVERSEDGE recorded a third straight victory in the Northern Counties East League last Saturday with a clinical display at Langwith Road.

Jamie Wasley enhanced his growing reputation with a brace of goals to make it 12 in his last 12 starts while fellow striker Ben Hardy hit a second goal in as many games after joining the Clayborn side.

Third-bottom Shirebrook may be deep in relegation trouble but they had the better of things in the first half and will rue not converting possession and chances into goals.

Liversedge turned in a solid display and broke well several times to ensure they completed the double over their hosts, having won 5-1 at Clayborn in November.

Liversedge finally opened the scoring in the 38th minute when after a fine save by Mitchell Smith, Jake Lawlor hacked the ball off his line to Brook Newton.

He broke clear and threaded a pass between two defenders to Hardy who curled a great shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Three minutes into the second half and Liversedge doubled their lead with Wasley's first goal.

Stuart Lunn brought the ball out of defence and fed Wasley who held the ball up before turning a defender and lashing the ball into the top corner.

It was 3-0 to the visitors in the 55th minute when they again broke well. Newton this time raced clear of the defence and when one-on-one with the goalkeeper fired in a shot which hit a post and then found the net to cap a fine display.

Defensively Liversedge were strong and five minutes from time they wrapped up a comprehensive victory as Wasley raced clear from halfway and chipped the advancing goalkeeper to score.

Liversedge: Smith, Ryan Haigh, Lawlor, Springer, Lunn (Kavanagh 78mins), L Ryan (Shuttleworth 65mins), Hardy,Ettienne, Wasley, Newton, Philps (S Ryan 73mins).
