Mistakes prove costly for Liversedge
Liversedge 2 Pickering Town 3 MISSED chances and defensive lapses proved costly as Liversedge slipped to a second defeat in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division last Saturday.
Liversedge again started brightly but were guilty of missing a glut of chances before eventually taking a 25th minute lead.
James Flower fed Danny Clapham early on and he found striker Jamie Wasley but his shot was tipped round a post for a corner.
A Jimmy Penn shot was tipped over the crossbar before Wasley went one-on-one with the goalkeeper, only to drag his shot wide.
Jimmy Penn made a good run and cross but Jermaine Moyce dragged his effort wide before Liversedge at last made their pressure tell.
Jake Lawler played a brilliant long ball from halfway and Moyce controlled it and cut inside before looping a superb shot into the top corner.
However, the home side's lead was short lived as Pickering made a good run down the left and his cross wasn't dealt with by the defence and Darren Clough managed to leap highest to head home the equaliser.
It remained 1-1 at half-time but Liversedge regained the lead just a minute after the break when Clapham made a good run to the byline and pulled the ball back for Moyce to fire home his second goal.
Liversedge looked comfortable for a time but they gifted Pickering a second equaliser as they lost the ball on halfway and Wayne Aziz was allowed to race through.
Goalkeeper Lee Williams came out and got a hand to the initial shot but the defence failed to react and Aziz latched onto the rebound and sidefooted home from a tight angle.
Just two minutes later Liversedge fell behind as Damien Dunne won the ball but as he was running out of the penalty area, he was adjudged to have clipped an oncoming attacker and the referee awarded a penalty.
Williams saved Liam Salt's spot kick but the ball bobbled up and Josh Greening fired home the rebound.
Liversedge should have got something out of the game but wasted further chances.
Substitute Gerard Peltier had a shot well saved, while fellow substitute James Hurtley saw an effort blocked before Clapham whistled a shot over the crossbar in the closing stages.
Liversedge: Williams, Haigh, James Penn, Lawler, Dunne, Flower (Hurtley 85), John Penn, Clapham, Wasley (Atkinson 75), Moyce, Newton (Peltier 64). Subs (not used): Saville, Sherridan.
