Ossett defeat Adwalton to seal home trophy final

The former Central Yorkshire League showpiece knock-out competition is now played for by teams in the lower reaches of the Bradford Premier League or those knocked out in the Priestley Cup first round.

Ossett suffered an agonising one-run defeat to Wrenthorpe in the Priestley Cup but now get chance to win some silverware after proving too strong for Conference side Adwalton in last Sunday’s Jack Hampshire semi-final.

Ossett a romped to a nine-wicket victory after Adwalton were dismissed for 121.

Dean Jackson (35) and Ben Garner (30) led the way for Adwalton but found the going tough as Charlie Orme (4-28) and Khalid Usman (3-13) impressed with the ball.

Ossett were guided towards their modest victory target by openers Richard Whitehurst (60no) and Harvey Anderson (52) as they shared a partnership of 113.

Whitehurst hit two sixes and nine fours while Anderson struck a six and 10 fours to set up the win.

Ossett will meet Buttershaw St Paul’s in the final after they overcame Keighley by seven wickets.

A second-wicket stand of 114 between Kevin McDermott (64) and Paul Carroll (48) helped Buttershaw to victory.

They chased down Keighley’s score of 185 in 29.5 overs.

McDermott was the pick of the attack with 3-15.

Opener Andy Wear was the top scorer for Keighley with 60 while Louis Horsfield chipped in with 37.
