BRIGHTON boss Gus Poyet has admitted he would like to return to Leeds United as manager - but maybe not at this time.

While not completely ruling himself out of the running to take over from Simon Grayson the Uruguayan does not believe the time is right to step into the Elland Road hot seat.

After plotting a 2-1 victory for the south coast club against United on Saturday the former Leeds assistant manager said he took no extra pleasure from beating his former employers and he still had a soft spot for the Leeds club.

Poyet said: “I don’t like to beat people I like. This place was spectacular for me. I grew up so much as a coach and learned so much.

“When you see the stand behind the goal it’s unique.

“I would love in the future to manage Leeds. I would really like to come back.

“But I would say it’s very difficult. I would say to you there is no chance.

“It’s not like I’m saying I’m not interested (in the manager’s job). Probably the timing is not right. To anyone who wants me back, I’m sorry.

“I don’t try to think too much about it. If you think this job will happen, that one will happen, maybe I’ve got a chance, you’re thinking about going to five, six, seven different places.

“Leeds is a special one for me but I prefer to wait. If it is coming then it’s a problem because you need to think about it.

“But I’m lucky at the moment because I’m at a place where I’ve got everything I want. It’s a good time to be at Brighton and I’ve got a long-term contract.

“I prefer to relax and do my job. Whatever comes, we’ll talk when it comes.”
