Quartet eye county semis

FOUR Heavy Woollen League sides will be vying to reach the semi-finals of the West Riding County Sunday competitions and an appearance at County headquarters in Woodlesford.

HW Premier sides Thornhill Lees and leaders St John Fisher have been handed home ties in this Sunday’s WR Sunday Cup quarter-finals (kick-off 11am).

Lees have a great chance of progressing as they entertain Manston Wanderers, who play in Leeds Combination League Division Two.

If successful, Lees will meet Halton Moor or Leeds Lions Seniors in the semi-finals at Woodlesford on Friday March 30 (7.30pm).

Littletown saw their WR Sunday Cup hopes dashed as they lost 4-2 in the fourth round at Leeds Lions Seniors of the Leeds Combination League Jubilee Premier.

Fisher have a tougher test at home to Combination Jubilee Premier high fliers Belle Isle WMC and victory would set up a semi-final against West Bowling or Buttershaw White Star on Tuesday April 3 (7.30pm).

The WR Sunday Cup final is on Thursday April 26 (7.30pm).

Gomersal will be aiming to make a county headquarters appearance for the first time as they welcome Waiters Arms, of Sowerby Bridge, to Shirley Rec in the WR Sunday Trophy (11am).

All supporters are welcome and victory for Gomersal could set up an all Heavy Woollen semi-final on Friday March 16 if first division rivals Dewsbury Rangers can triumph at AFC Hanover Arms.

The WR Sunday Trophy final will be played at Woodlesford on Friday April 20.

n Howden Clough welcome Colton to Batley Sports & Tennis Centre in the quarter-final of the West Riding Under-12 Shield on Sunday (2pm).

n Gomersal and Cleckheaton bowed out of the West Riding Under-14 Junior Trophy last Sunday after a 1-0 home defeat by Northowram.
