Rennison and Goddard tons as East Bierley go top

EAST BIERLEY went top of the table in Bradford League Division One last Saturday as two of their title rivals suffered defeats.

Yeadon recorded a shock three-wicket win over Bradford & Bingley – a result that keeps alive their hopes of avoiding relegation – while Woodlands lost by 103 runs at Cleckheaton.

Pudsey St Lawrence, who had no game, trail leaders Bierley by three points and are joined on 288 points by Pudsey Congs, who won by 115 runs at Farsley.

Bradford and Bingley are now eight points behind Congs in fourth with Woodlands fifth, three points further back.

Bierley climbed from fourth to first after a 174-run success over Bankfoot.

Andrew Rennison and Lee Goddard shared a magnificent stand of 237 as Bierley powered to 296-3 declared from just 39 overs.

Rennison top scored with 133 from 89 balls, with 18 fours and four sixes, while Goddard remained 107 not out after 13 fours and three sixes.

The extra 11 overs were not needed to overhaul Bankfoot who slipped to 122 all out in 37 overs.

Michael Hutchins led the reply with 34 but Bierley stormed to victory with Mohammed Azharullah again in impressive form, with 6-25.

There was also a wicket each for Paul Hutchison, Oliver Ashford, Luke Jarvis and Matthew Anderson.

Woodlands, who had started the day in second place, were sent to defeat at Cleckheaton.

Ammar Mahmood hit 66 from 99 balls, supported by John Wood (39), as the home side reached 189 all out.

Pieter Swanepoel claimed 2-22, Chris Brice 5-65, Sarfraz Ahmed 1-29 and Richard Spittlehouse 2-51.

Brice then made 28 in reply as Woodlands were spun out for 86 in 39 overs by Mark Cummins (5-20 in 11 overs with three maidens), Mahmood (2-21) and Edward Walmsley (2-17).Victory left Cleckheaton in sixth place, 18 points behind Woodlands.

Gomersal recorded their seventh league win of the season, by six wickets against Undercliffe at Oxford Road.

Solid scoring from the visitors, led by Farakh Hussain (53) and Nawaz Sardar (41) saw them close on 215-7.

Shahzaib Khan ended with 3-53 and Adam Greenwood 2-51 while Rob Burton claimed 1-47.

After losing Andrew Gorrod without a run on the board, Richard Gould and Phil Carter (37) shared a second-wicket stand of 97.

Opener Gould then pushed on and added

77 with Greg Pickles before falling on 174. Gould made 81 from 92 balls with 14 fours and a six.

Pickles went on to make 52 from 62 balls before he was out but Greenwood (16no) and Khan (12no) saw Gomersal to 219-4 in 42 overs.

Saltaire's relegation to Division Two was confirmed with their defeat by 77 runs against Baildon.
