Roberttown counts down to Sunday's Seven Mile

ROBERTTOWN Road Runners Seven Mile Road Race is being held this Sunday, June 6, starting at 11am from the Common.

This event is a favourite with athletes from around the North of England who are pleased to get in some competitive road running.

Entries for the race are limited to just 200 but given good weather there is likely to be plenty of support for the runners which will mean extra traffic in and around the village.

Athletes are advised to arrive in good time to register at the Community Centre and spectators are also asked to arrive early and to park safely.

The race entry fee is 6 for club runners and 8 for unattached runners. There is an extra charge of a 1 for entries made on the day of the race. Entry details are still available on the club website www.roberttownroad runners.co.uk/

The testing seven mile route will take in Robberttown, Hartshead and Hightown before finishing at the start point on the Common. The water stations along the course are supported by drinks company Princes based in Bradford.

Last year the winner was local athlete Jack Hallas, who was representing Wakefield Harriers, his winning time was 38 minutes 10 seconds.

The first woman home was Bridget Coomber, of Denby Dale Travellers, who finished in 46 minutes 35 seconds, she was also the first female in the over-45 category.

Roberttown Road Runners do training runs on Wednesdays from Echo Street and runners of all abilities are welcome.
