LIVERSEDGE will be looking to end a four-match losing run if tomorrow’s scheduled Northern Counties East League Premier Division clash at home to lowly Hall Road Rangers beats the freeze.

That game is in jeopardy due to the snow and ice and a scheduled midweek Under-19s game at Thackley already fell victim to the weather, which is forecast to get worse today and tonight.

Darryl Leach had hinted at retiring after he was sent off in the Boxing Day derby defeat to Brighouse Town but although he returned to the side, he was unable to prevent Liversedge slipping to a fourth straight defeat last Saturday, going down 4-1 at Maltby Main, who closed to within three points of the Clayborners.

The visitors got off to a dreadful start and were always chasing the game after falling two goals down in the opening 12 minutes. Maltby took the lead after just three minutes when Mark Stuart latched onto a short backpass and lobbed goalkeeper Paul Hargreen.

Veteran striker Brian Cusworth then outmuscled full-back James Rothell and slid the ball under the advancing Hargreen to put Main in control.

Sedge had much of the play for the remainder of the first half and although it remained 2-0 at the break, they continued to pile on the pressure after the re-start.

Chris Hirst deservedly pulled a goal back after 55 minutes when he smashed home a bouncing ball inside the area.

Hirst was narrowly wide with an overhead kick and the same player latched onto a Mickie Hall flick-on but his shot struck the outside of a post.

Substitute Danny Toronczak latched onto another Hall flick-on and looked to have drawn Sedge level but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Manager Eric Gilchrist threw men forward in search of an equaliser and introduced Gibril Bojang for defender Joe Hewitt.

Bojang sent Adam Jarrett through but he shot wide and Maltby exploited gaps at the back to score twice more late on.

Maltby broke and when an attacker was fouled inside the area, Craig Gladwin stroked home the resulting penalty.

Four minutes from full-time Cusworth was put in on goal and slid the ball under Hargreen to seal victory.

Liversedge: Hargreen, Hewitt (Bojang 75), Rothell, Wood, Leach, Riordan, McMahon, Hirst, Hall, Bugg (Toronczak 65), Jarrett. Subs (not used): Cooper, Butters, Dennison.
