Title race hangs in the balance

WOODLANDS can only watch and wait to see if their Bradford League Division One title battle is on track or left dented by tomorrow evening.

The Oakenshaw side, second in the table by one point, are without a match this weekend while leaders Pudsey St Lawrence are at Bankfoot, who are bottom of the table, seeking only their second win of the season.

Woodlands entered their enforced break with 19 points from a fine win against Farsley when Sam Frankland took the batting honours and Safraz Ahmed looked sharp.

East Bierley will be hoping that they can improve on their fourth place when they take on second -bottom Saltaire at South View Road.

Bierley are in a rich vein of form encouraged by Muhammad Azharullah who was in good form as Bierley edged out Cleckheaton by one run and collected maximum points. They are seven points behind third-placed Bradford and Bingley and 21 behind Woodlands.

Gomersal can do Bierley a favour if they can topple Bradford and Bingley at Wagon Lane.

Cleckheaton will be aiming to bounce back from last Saturday's defeat with a winning trip to last year's champions Baildon.

In Division Two Hartshead Moor, having swept aisde second-placed Lightcliffe last Saturday, can bolster their own promotion ambitions by doing the same at leaders Hanging Heaton.

Moor's cause was not best served by the Bradford League scoring system.

By bowling out Lightcliffe for 94 and completing the win without losing a wicket, they missed out on collecting any batting points which only kicks in for innings of over 125.

Spen Victoria safe in seventh place will be aiming for a win at second-bottom Idle.

Liversedge re-kindled their hopes of surviving in the Central Yorkshire League Premier Division when they beat Batley last Saturday.

Liversedge are second bottom on 25 points, the same as Altofts just above them, and one ahead of Batley.

Liversedge entertain Methley tomorrow, while Batley travel to Birstall.

In Division One fourth -bottom Scholes take on leaders Hunslet Nelson.
