Top roller hockey teams in Challenge Cup final at Whitcliffe

WHITCLIFFE Mount Sports Centre in Cleckheaton is the venue on Saturday night for a spectacular showdown between the two best roller hockey teams in the north, who are going to be playing for the Cock O' the North Challenge Cup.

Middlesbrough take on Manchester in the contest which will serve as a fantastic introduction to the sport and will give people a taste of this fast, exciting sport.

Fans of the sport from way back when the Spen Valley was a hotbed of roller hockey can see some of the best action in the north, while youngsters who love action that is fast and furious will be able to see some spectacular sport.

The match starts at 6.30pm and all supporters are welcome to create a terrific atmosphere for the players.

The event is being organised by the Whitcliffe Mount Roller Hockey Academy which is based at the sports centre and is aiming to get youngsters involved in the sport.

The academy holds roller hockey sessions every Saturday at Whitcliffe Mount from 5.30pm. They are open to all youngsters aged from five to 15.

The academy, run by Dan Messenger, the assistant England roller hockey manager, says they will provide all the equipment so all children have to do is turn up.

If you can already roller skate that’s great – if not the academy coaches will teach you. Each session costs 3 – all are welcome.
