Tough Bay test for Liversedge FC
NEW Liversedge manager, Stuart Waddington, declares himself 'buzzing with excitement' at the prospect of preparing his team to meet the double FA Vase winners Whitley Bay, who are the visitors to Clayborn tomorrow, in the FA Cup extra preliminary round, kick-off 3pm.
"It has been a real baptism of fire for me, meeting one of the best teams in the league last week at Armthorpe, followed by Whitley Bay this week but if you aren't excited by that you have no right wanting to be in management.
"I have been buzzing with excitement ever since I got this job."
The scale of the task ahead of Waddington was underlined by the 5-0 defeat at Armthorpe last Saturday at the start of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
Four of the five goals were down to Liversedge defensive errors even though goalkeeper Lee Williams was one of the better performing players on display.
"We will have a stronger squad on display to face Whitley Bay.
"Damien Dunn came through a good training session and should be fit.
"Craig Sheridan and Jamie Flower are also returning and are available."
Waddington added that in Armthorpe they faced one of the best teams in the Northern Counties Eastern Counties Premier Division.
"They played good football and were in the right places to score goals."
"We still look unfit and are about two to three weeks behind where we want to be fitness wise.
"We had a really tough fitness session on Tuesday night and the lads worked well and we will have to keep on working at that intensity and level."
Waddington said there characteristics that he was delighted with at Armthorpe, despite the result.
"Even when we went 4-0 down the lads kept on going and trying to play football, I was very proud of them for that."
He says the real Liversedge will start to show themselves in the NCE matches in the next few weeks against Pickering, Dinnington and Arnold.
Waddington also said he wants to work with the players he has at the club Now.
"I want everyone to have the chance to show me what they can do, and what they have got to give to the club."
He added that he has also to work within a budget.
"Its the same throughout football, if you are Chelsea or us, the players will go to the club with the most money."
In the meantime he urged the fans locally to get down to Clayborn tomorrow.
"The fans will be very welcome and we will provide an entertaining game of football."
