Twenty20 double bonanza at Spen

SPEN Victoria will stage a bonanza of Twenty20 cricket on Sunday when they host a fun-filled double header of matches.

Spen have yet to play a game in this season's Dyson Insulations Twenty20 competition, having seen their opening game with Bankfoot abandoned due to rain, but they will kick start their Group Four campaign with two matches on Sunday afternoon.

Gomersal make the short trip down Spen Lane for what should be a keenly contested derby in the opening match at 1pm, before Victoria take on Bankfoot straight after, around 4pm.

It should provide an excellent afternoon's entertainment and the club will be hoping the weather stays fine and that a good crowd will turn up.

The day will begin with a junior match which starts at 10am.

The hard work the Spen committee has put in recent years was rewarded with the 2008 Heavy Woollen Cup final, while Spen Lane also staged last season's Priestley Shield final between Hanging Heaton and Pudsey St Lawrence.

The club put on such a good show on those occasions, that they have been rewarded by the Bradford League and will stage the Priestley Cup final on August 29.

Spen, who are ninth in Bradford League Division Two have a good chance of picking up a fifth win tomorrow when they travel to Brighouse, who are just below them in the table. The match starts at 1.30pm.

Tosh Baker was in good form with bat and ball last Saturday but it wasn't enough for them to overcome Bowling Old Lane.

Hartshead Moor suffered a setback in their promotion battle last week when they slipped to a 93-run defeat at Windhill and they will be hoping to get back on track tomorrow when Keighley are the visitors to Highmoor Lane.Graham Hilton was in top form making 60.

With leaders Hanging Heaton entertaining second placed Lightcliffe, Hartshead will be hoping to close the gap in the race for promotion.

East Bierley and Woodlands will be looking to enhance their title ambitions when they take on sides in the lower reaches of Division One.

Woodlands make the short trip up Cleckheaton Road to face bottom- side Bankfoot.

Woodlands are fifth, eight points behind fourth-placed Bradford and Bingley and 30 behind leaders Undercliffe so every point is vital to the teams still in title contention.

Chris Brice had an impact with bat and ball last week against Gomersal and will be keen to play a big part again tomorrow.

East Bierley, a place behind Woodlands, but sharing the same number of points, are away to Yeadon tomorrow.

The hosts occupy the third relegation spot and Bierley will be targetting the trip as one from which they can gain valuable league points.

They will be keen to follow up a fine win against Farsley last week when batsmen Gavin Hamilton, Ismail Dawood and Muhammed Azarullah were in top form.

Woodlands and Bierley will have to keep an eye on Cleckheaton's home game with third-placed Pudsey Congs and hope Cleckheaton can dent the Pudsey side's challenge.

Cleckheaton will be aiming to improve on a defeat at home to St Lawrence last Saturday.

Gomersal can take another big step towards survival in Division One as they travel to second-bottom club Saltaire tomorrow. They will be hoping that last week's centurion Richard Gould will get some winning reward.
