Moorlands produce Winn factor against Barkisland

Moorlands picked up their third win in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership last Saturday, defeating Barkisland by six wickets.

David Winn was in fine form with both bat and ball as he picked up four wickets and scored 49 runs to help Moorlands move into seventh place.

Winn claimed 4-47 and with support from Nicky Smith (3-52) and Andrew Walker (3-29), Barkisland were bowled out for 236 off the final ball of their 50 overs.

Winn struck 49 at the top of Moorlands reply and shared a useful first wicket partnership with Andrew Fortis (44).

Liam Smith chipped in with 31 before Aqeel Mushtaq smahsed 74 not out to secure a convining win with 4.1 overs to spare.

Former Mirfield Parish all-rounder Alex Scholefield claimed 2-49 for Barkisland.

Mirfield face two away games over a double league weekend as they travel to Kirkburton this Saturday before a trip to Thongsbridge on Sunday.

Mirfield Parish stay top of the Championship despite suffering a first defeat of the season, going down by two wickets against Meltham.

Daniel Broadbent (46) and Nazar Hussain (47) led the way but Parish were bowled out for 200 in the 49th over as George Sykes-Kenworthy claimed 4-35.

Although Jack Moulson (37) and Ibrar Hussain (33) made useful contributions in the Meltham reply, Parish appeared on course for victory as Nazar Hussain claimed4-39.

However, number seven batsman Mudasar Butt produced a vital innings of 36 not out to steer Meltham to victory off the final ball of the 50th over.

Parish aim for a return to winning ways when they travel to eighth placed Clayton West on Saturday.

Mirfield picked up their first win of the season as they chased down 290 to defeat Denby.

Jack Jones (74), Zahid Nassar (57) and Bandula Don (34) all made decent contribututions before the Denby innings was boosted by 62 not out from number eight batsman Tim Jones.

Emma Bolt (4-46) was pick of the Mirfield bowling but they appeared to be staring at a fifth straight defeat as Denby posted 290-7.

Adam Goldthorpe led a terrific run chase with a magnificent 134 at the top of the Mirfield innings.

Even when Goldthorpe was out, Mirfield had the impetus as Matthew Haigh struck 61, while Philip Scouller saw the Memorial Park side to their victory target with 19 balls to spare as he finished on 57 not out.

Mirfield climbed to 10th place and are buyed by the win as they entertain Birkby Rose Hill on Saturday.
